The projects, current and completed, carried out by CSI in the preceding two years include the following:


Review of a Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Capacity Building project in Pakistan:

  • Evaluate the achievement so far of the project objectives;
  • Evaluate objectives according to the original recommendations suggested by an independent study;
  • Clarify the roles of all partners in the project;
  • Present suggestions of improvements for the project;
  • Plan and conduct seminars for the project sponsors;
  • Deliver a comprehensive report.
 

Preparation of the UAE USAR team to undergo an international classification of its international response capacity:

  • Conduct an assessment of existing capacity;
  • Develop a comprehensive strategy to achieved the required capacity within the available timeframe;
  • Work with identified international partners to implement the strategy;
  • Conduct comprehensive periodic capacity status assessments to monitor progress;
  • Oversee the independent classification process.
 

Conduct an independent review of a Donor sponsored NGO:

  • Independently assess the NGO’s current and completed activities, including administrative, management and monitoring processes, and the extent to which objectives, benefits and impacts were, or were not, achieved;
  • Validate the performance data provided by the NGO and provide a perspective on how this program fits within the Donor’s broader humanitarian emergency response;
  • Identify lessons learned (operational and activity related);
  • Assess the capacity of the NGO to up-scale its current mandate and operations;
  • Provide recommendations on how the current partnership may be enhanced in the future;
  • Plan and conduct seminars for the project sponsors;
  • Deliver a comprehensive report.
 

Conduct a regional study within Disaster Risk Management (DRM), Early Recovery and Rescue Services in four countries in South Asia including Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and Tajikistan:

  • Describe and assess risk scenarios with a cross-border impact in the concerned countries;
  • Assess the capacity of DRM, Early Recovery and Rescue Services organisations;
  • Identify and describe existing or planned regional development cooperation programmes in DRM, Early Recovery and Search and Rescue in the region and in particular between the four concerned countries;
  • Assess Donor strategies and funding opportunities for planning purposes of a possible future regional Asian project or programme support within DRM, Early Recovery and Rescue Services.
 

Identify Donor’s current activities in Post Preparedness:

  • Identify possible future activities;
  • Develop a strategy with recommendations for longer term disaster risk management in Post Preparedness;
  • Plan and conduct seminars for the project sponsors;
  • Deliver a comprehensive report.
 

Develop and facilitate a course in Environmental Emergencies:

  • Design an environmental emergencies training program and strategy and develop and compile a specific training to facilitate its effective implementation;
  • Design and facilitate the training course listed above, to include development of a participatory, pedagogical approach, drawing on the experience of participants, resource persons as well as other training methodology;
  • Develop training material for the course (based on an analysis of existing materials), incorporating lessons learned from earlier training courses and workshops;
  • Facilitate the training course, ensuring that the curriculum is covered and that the various session leaders respect the overall pedagogical design, timing and needs of participants;
  • Following the courses, assist with evaluation and further refinement of the design and development of the training material for future courses;
  • Direct and guide other consultants and personnel working on the project.
 

Conduct an assessment and provide a comprehensive training course in Hazardous Chemicals to strengthen the disaster mitigation and management system in Mongolia:

  • Conduct a needs assessment for capacity building of relevant government agencies to respond to chemical emergencies;
  • Develop a training package and provide guidelines for establishing a training facility for chemical emergencies;
  • Conduct training of a pilot training course on how to respond effectively and safely to Chemical emergencies;
  • Produce a comprehensive training package
  • Deliver a comprehensive report.
 

USAR Medical Capability Enhancement Project:

  • Assess the existing capacity of the medical component of a USAR team;
  • Review Policy and SOPs;
  • Provide detailed recommendations to enhance the capacity of the medical component of the USAR team;
  • Draft SOPs to augment existing SOPs for review by executive management.
 

Design and facilitate the delivery of simulation and Table Top Exercises to:

  • Exercise the SOPs for alert and activation, mobilisation, operations and demobilisation process of the organisation;
  • Set priorities and identify major tasks, functions and operations in response to a major incident or disaster;
  • Exercise the integration and coordination of multi-agency response systems;
  • Identify areas which could be enhanced;
  • Conduct a Lessons Identified exercise review.

This type of exercise has been conducted in:
  •      Philippines;
  •      Bhutan;
  •      Nepal;
 
Conduct an assessment of and develop a strategic plan for a USAR Team with the intention of developing its capacity to undergo an international classification of its international response capacity:

  • Conduct an assessment of existing capacity;
  • Develop a high-level strategy to achieve the required capacity within the available timeframe.
